Gluteus Maximus

Origin:

Surface of the ilium, posterior to posterior gluteal line and posterior  inferior surface of sacrum and coccyx

Insertion:

Gluteal tuberosity of femur and iliotibial tract

Actions:

Hip extension, lateral rotation and abduction

Nerve Supply:

Inferior gluteal nerve

 

High Step Up

 

1. With one foot up on a high step

2. Push off with the foot on the floor, using your gluteal muscles to push you up

3. As you step up, raise the opposite arm and bend the knee to 90 degrees

4. Repeat on each side
