Anyone registered with a GP in Suffolk or North East Essex is eligible to self-refer for free NHS Physiotherapy.

This is an online referral form that can be completed 24 hours per day, 365 days per year. Alternatively, you can call one of our trained call handlers between 8 am to 5:30pm Monday to Friday on 03330 433966 (not including bank holidays and public holidays)

Can you prescribe me medication?
• Unfortunately, we cannot provide injections as part of our service, but we can liaise/ refer to services that could offer this treatment, if appropriate
• Some advanced physiotherapists who work in GP surgeries or at local hospitals can provide injections.
Can you send for me for an x-ray?
• Some of our physiotherapists can refer you for x-rays.
• In East Suffolk, some physiotherapists can refer for x-rays in accordance with the knee/hip pathways if clinically appropriate.
• Practitioners within your GP practice, A+E services or advanced physiotherapists can refer for x-rays if clinically appropriate.
How long will it take to complete a referral?
Referrals take 10-15 minutes to complete online or by telephone (03330 433 966)
Can someone help me with my referral?
Yes, either someone can complete an online referral on your behalf by selecting this option at registration or you can call us on 03330 433 966 and one of our call handlers can support you with completion.
I did a referral for the same problem recently, why do I have to do another one?
You will not normally need to do a second referral, please call us on 03330 433966 and we will be able to advise you accordingly.
What information do I need to provide? Will I need to bring any documents/ information?
There shouldn't be a need to bring anything with you, however, if you have something you think might help (a report from the hospital/ scan or list of current medication) please feel free to bring this with you.
After completing a referral FAQs
How long will it take before my referral is processed?
Most referrals are reviewed by a clinician within 2 working days of the referral being completed. Following this, the clinician will email you with some information (or a copy will be sent by post if you don’t have an email address).
Will an appointment be sent to me?
There will be instructions on how to book an appointment in the email or letter which you receive after your referral. These instructions may vary depending on the care that you require.
Will I get to see a physio face to face?
We offer face-to-face, telephone and online appointments and you will be offered a choice where possible and appropriate.
Where will my physiotherapy appointment take place?
- If you are registered with a Suffolk GP then your appointment can take place at any of the locations listed here. We will try and find a suitable location near to where you live or work but you can choose to be seen at any site in most situations.
- If you are not registered with a Suffolk GP, please refer to your local provider.
As you’re a Suffolk company, will I have to be seen in Suffolk?
If you are registered with a GP outside Suffolk and your local community service uses U-Refer to take self-referrals online or by telephone. In this case you will be seen by the local service.
