Yes, you can opt out at any time. To do so you need to let your clinician know you would like to do so, and they will not start the recording or if it is during a consultation they will stop the recording and can discard the recording.
AI note takers
At AHP Suffolk we use AI note takers to record consultations and turn them into clinical notes. An outline of this is shown in the figure below. This process has been designed with the input of clinicians and saves time and allows more time to be spent with our patients.
The notes that are generated are always checked for accuracy by the clinician before they are added to medical records with.
Common Questions:
Can I choose not to have my consultation recorded?
Can I opt out of certain parts of the consultation from the recording?
Yes, the recordings can be paused and resumed. If you would like any parts of the consultation not to be recorded let your clinician know.
They will still need to document anything that is said outside of the recording if it is relevant to your health, care and safety.
Is my consent required before recording starts?
We do not need your formal consent to make an audio recording for clinical note-taking, because the NHS (or your healthcare provider) processes this information under the “public task” legal basis in the UK GDPR. This means we are allowed to process your data when it is necessary for us to provide safe, effective care.
However, you will always be informed before any recording begins, and you will be given the opportunity to object.
If you prefer not to be recorded, just tell your clinician. We will respect your choice and continue the appointment without recording. Declining recording will not affect the care you receive.
Can I request a copy of the transcript or notes?
Yes, this is your data and we have more information on requesting access to notes here: https://ahpsuffolk.co.uk/about-us/your-healthcare-records/
How accurate are the notes generated and how safe is the product?
The notes generated will always be reviewed by the clinician before they are added to your medical notes. AHP Suffolk CIC have undertaken a detailed review of the clinical safety and a data privacy impact assessment of these products and services to ensure they are fit for purpose and keep you safe.
Does it record video as well as audio?
No, no video recording is performed of clinical consultations on a routine basis. There may be specific situations in which video recording is performed but you would be informed of this before the consultation.
Who will have access to my records?
Only the clinician who conducts the consultation with you. The providers of the software can access recordings but only upon our instructions to investigate any faults or errors in the transcription or notes generated by the AI.
Where and how long with the recording be stored for?
The recording and resulting notes will only be stored in UK data centres and not transferred abroad. The recordings will be available to the clinician for 30 days after the consultation to refer back to if needed.
Which systems do you use to record consultations?
AHP Suffolk use both CLEARnotes and Lexacom in different services and settings. This is because each software has particular

Will my data be used to train current or future AI models?
